In the last 4 years, the JF Crab has proven deadly on the flats of the Bahamas, Mexico, Tahiti, and the Seychelles. On South Andros, one lodge manager caught his biggest Andros bone ever on this fly. Recently, on a trip to the Bahamas, this fly accounted for over 50 bonefish landed. Also try it on Permit, Triggerfish, Snook, Snapper, and any other fish looking for crabs.
The JF Crab came about as a result of looking for new ways to use closed-cell foam in bonefish flies. This pattern has many unique features. The large wing helps the fly to sink upright and draws attention to the fly. The foam body lands easily and keeps the back of the fly up. The rabbit fur gives it life in the water. Bonefish will grab and hold this fly longer due to the feel of the foam body. And yes, it does sink nicely despite the foam.
